About this trip

Overview

The Ek Dham Yatra is the shortest way to reach Badrinath Ji, the holiest of the four Himalayan shrines, for pilgrims who have limited time but do not want a rushed darshan. Cradled between the Nar and Narayan ranges on the left bank of the Alaknanda, with the Neelkantha peak rising behind it, Badrinath was once carpeted with wild berries, or badris, which gave the valley its name. The programme bases you at Govindghat or Pipalkoti rather than at Badrinath itself, so that the temple is approached on a fresh early morning rather than at the end of a long day.

Day 1

Leave early in the morning after breakfast for an almost day long drive up the Alaknanda valley to Pipalkoti or Govindghat, passing the river confluences at Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag and Nandprayag along the way. The run can take more than 10 hours if there is traffic congestion. We prefer Govindghat or Pipalkoti over Badrinath for this night, as pilgrims booked directly into Badrinath routinely arrive late in the evening, which makes services difficult to manage and leaves the next day rushed. The Govindghat to Badrinath stretch via Lambgarh is also prone to landslides and is never advisable after dark. Staying lower allows gradual acclimatisation and leaves time to see Hemkund Sahib Ji at Govindghat or the traditional markets of Pipalkoti and Joshimath.

Day 2

Full Day Badrinath Temple and Mana Village

Early morning, take a holy dip in the Tapt Kund and proceed for darshan of Badri Vishal.

Early morning, take a holy dip in the Tapt Kund and proceed for darshan of Badri Vishal. Badrinath, the holiest of the four shrines, lies on the left bank of the Alaknanda between the Nar and Narayan ranges with the Neelkantha peak as backdrop, and the valley takes its name from the wild berries, or badris, that once carpeted the spot. Continue to Nag Nagin Pith, an important site for Sarpkal Dosh Nivaran, then drive up to Mana Village, the last Indian village before Tibet, to see Vyas Cave, Ganesha Cave, Keshav Prayag and the origin of the Saraswati. Also visit Charan Paduka, Ekadasi Gufa, Hanuman Gufa, Narad Kund, Brahma Kapal and Sheshnetra before returning via Pandukeshwar.

Day 3

Departure via Panch Prayag and Rishikesh

Descend along the Vishnuprayag, Nandprayag and Karnaprayag view points, continuing via Rudraprayag and Devprayag to Rishikesh.

Rudraprayag to Haridwar240 km or 159 km07-08 HoursBreakfast

Descend along the Vishnuprayag, Nandprayag and Karnaprayag view points, continuing via Rudraprayag and Devprayag to Rishikesh. At Rishikesh, Lakshman Jhula and Ram Jhula are pedestrian only, so the vehicle waits at the parking. If the timing suits, attend the Ganga Aarti at Parmarth Niketan before proceeding to your departure point at Haridwar railway station or Dehradun airport.

Common questions

FAQs

What does the Ek Dham Badrinath Yatra cost per person?

Per person rates start at 8,900 for a group of 12 in the Standard category and rise with the hotel grade and smaller group sizes, up to 21,800 per person for two travellers in the Premium category. All rates exclude 5% GST.

Is there any trekking on this package?

No. Badrinath temple is reached by road, which is what makes this the most accessible of the four dhams and suitable for travellers who cannot manage the Kedarnath trek.

Why do we stay at Govindghat or Pipalkoti instead of Badrinath?

Pilgrims booked directly into Badrinath routinely arrive late in the evening, which makes services difficult to manage and leaves the next day rushed. The Govindghat to Badrinath stretch via Lambgarh is prone to landslides and is never advisable after dark. Staying lower also allows gradual acclimatisation to the thin mountain air. A Badrinath stay can be arranged on strong preference, but entirely at the pilgrim's own risk.

Is GST included in the quoted rate?

No. All rates are per person and exclusive of 5% Government Service Tax. Entrance fees, camera charges, pony, palki and ropeway charges are also paid directly by the guest.

Will the vehicle be air conditioned?

AC is not provided in the hills, which is standard practice across Uttarakhand. AC runs only on the plains sectors such as Delhi to Haridwar or Dehradun, and only against prior written confirmation.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancelling 30 days or more before arrival refunds 90% of the booking amount, 25 to 29 days refunds 70%, 20 to 24 days refunds 50% and 10 to 19 days refunds 25%. Within 9 days of arrival no refund applies. Every request must be sent in writing or by email, and refunds are processed after cancellation charges and any non-refundable third party costs already paid.
