Day 1

Arrive Cochin and Transfer to Munnar

On arrival at Cochin airport or railway station you are received and assisted with the onward transfer to Munnar.

The journey gradually leaves the plains behind and enters Kerala's hill country, where winding roads, plantations and forested slopes define the landscape. Munnar, in the Idukki district at an elevation of around 5,200 feet, is one of Kerala's most loved hill stations and is known for its vast tea estates and cool climate. En route, stop to view the scenic Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls. On arrival check in to the hotel and spend the remaining time at leisure.

Munnar Sightseeing

After breakfast, proceed for a full day of sightseeing in Munnar.

Situated at the confluence of three mountain streams, the Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala, Munnar lies about 1,600 metres above sea level and was once a summer retreat of the British administration in South India. Visit Mattupetty Dam, known for its peaceful reservoir setting, followed by Kundala Lake and Echo Point, where the surrounding hills create a natural echo. Later visit Rajamalai and Eravikulam National Park, subject to opening and local regulations, where travellers may have the chance to see the rare Nilgiri Tahr in its natural habitat.

Munnar to Thekkady

After breakfast, check out and drive to Thekkady.

After breakfast, check out and drive to Thekkady. On arrival, check in and freshen up before the spice plantation tour, one of the signature experiences of the region. Thekkady is known for its spice gardens, forest landscape and proximity to the Periyar wildlife region. In the evening guests may opt for boating on Lake Periyar as part of the conducted tour, subject to availability and at additional cost. Advance direct booking through the Periyar Tiger Reserve website is recommended to avoid a last minute rush.

Explore Thekkady

After breakfast at the hotel or resort, spend the day exploring more of Thekkady.

Guests can visit a spice garden, enjoy an elephant ride, opt for a jeep safari, or spend time shopping for locally produced spices and other regional products. All optional activities are subject to availability and are paid directly. In the evening, return to the resort and relax.

Thekkady to Alleppey

After breakfast, check out from the hotel or resort and drive to Alleppey.

After breakfast, check out from the hotel or resort and drive to Alleppey. On arrival, check in to the pre booked hotel. Alleppey is one of Kerala's best known backwater destinations, celebrated for its canals, lakes and houseboat culture. Guests may choose to enjoy boating at Vembanad Lake at direct cost, depending on time and availability. Later in the evening, visit Alappuzha Beach, where the coastline offers a relaxed atmosphere and attractive sunset views.

Alleppey to Cochin Airport or Railway Station Drop

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and drive to Cochin airport or railway station, depending on your onward travel arrangements.

Payment schedule

  • 25% of the total package cost is paid at the time of booking
  • A further 50% is paid at least 30 days before the departure date
  • The remaining 25% is paid at least 15 days before the departure date
  • The full package amount must be cleared before the tour begins
  • Booking confirmation is subject to receipt of the required advance
  • A booking made 45 days or more before departure needs a minimum 25% advance
  • A booking made 30 days before departure needs a minimum 50% advance
  • A booking made 15 days before departure needs the full tour amount

Cancellation policy

  • 30 days or more before the arrival date, 90% of the total booking amount is refunded
  • 25 to 29 days before the arrival date, 70% of the total booking amount is refunded
  • 20 to 24 days before the arrival date, 50% of the total booking amount is refunded
  • 10 to 19 days before the arrival date, 25% of the total booking amount is refunded
  • Within 9 days of the arrival date no refund is applicable
  • All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing or by email
  • Refunds are processed after cancellation charges and any non-refundable third party costs already incurred

  • Hotels are not categorised by government authorities; they are classified on the facilities they provide
  • Standard check in time is 2:00 PM and check out time is 10:30 AM
  • Resorts in Munnar, Thekkady, Coorg and Wayanad generally do not have AC rooms in the 3 star category, and AC may be provided at additional cost on request
  • Resorts in Ooty and Kodaikanal generally do not have AC rooms, although some hotels may offer them
  • Houseboats are classified on AC timing and available facilities rather than as hotels, and houseboat rooms differ from hotel or resort rooms
  • Houseboat check in is 12:00 PM and check out is 09:00 AM, and houseboats do not cruise after 5:00 PM but dock near the mainland
  • Electricity fluctuations may occur on houseboats due to weather conditions
  • A houseboat day cruise runs from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM only, with AC available in the Luxury category and in rooms only in the Premium category
  • Activity and entrance charges at sightseeing locations are not included in the package
  • The Innova provided is a standard Innova and not a Crysta; a Crysta must be specified in advance and rates will differ
  • Package rates may not apply during peak season, festive periods, long weekends and special event dates
  • Hotels are subject to availability at confirmation, and an unavailable hotel is replaced with one of similar category and standard

FAQs

What does Splendid Kerala cost per person?

Per person rates start at 18,590 for a group of eight in 3 Star hotels and rise with the hotel grade and smaller group sizes, up to 46,540 per person for two travellers in 5 Star hotels. The vehicle changes with the group, from a sedan for two, an SUV or Innova for four, and a Tempo Traveller for six and above. All rates exclude 5% GST.

Which meals are included?

Breakfast and dinner at every hotel, on the MAPAI plan. Lunch and beverages are not included.

Is a houseboat stay part of this package?

No. The Alleppey nights are in a backwater hotel or resort. Boating on Vembanad Lake and a houseboat day cruise can be arranged separately and are paid directly.

Will the rooms be air conditioned in Munnar and Thekkady?

Hill station resorts in Munnar and Thekkady generally do not have AC rooms in the 3 Star category, as the climate rarely needs it. AC can be provided at additional cost on request, and is more commonly available in the higher categories.

Is the Innova a Crysta?

No. The vehicle provided is a standard Innova. If a Crysta is required it must be specified in advance and the rates will differ, as new Innova models are no longer in production.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancelling 30 days or more before arrival refunds 90% of the booking amount, 25 to 29 days refunds 70%, 20 to 24 days refunds 50% and 10 to 19 days refunds 25%. Within 9 days of arrival no refund applies.
