Chardham Yatra from Delhi 2026 - Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath

About this trip

Overview

This ex Delhi version of the Chardham Yatra begins with a night at Haridwar for the Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri, then climbs through the Garhwal ranges to the four sacred dhams of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. Two additional nights over the ex Haridwar programme make this the more relaxed option: the Delhi to Haridwar transfer gets a day of its own rather than being bolted onto the first mountain drive, and the yatra closes with a night at Rishikesh before the return to Delhi. An overnight halt at Kedarnath Ji and buffer time in the Kedarnath and Badrinath sectors mean weather delays need not derail the journey.

Arrival Delhi and Transfer to Haridwar

Meet our representative or chauffeur on arrival in Delhi as per your pre defined schedule and proceed to Haridwar.

Delhi to Haridwar260 km05-06 HoursDinnerHaridwar

Meet our representative or chauffeur on arrival in Delhi as per your pre defined schedule and proceed to Haridwar. On arrival, check in to the hotel. You may then proceed on your own to the Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri, time and conditions permitting. The driver who brought you from Delhi is not available for further pick up and drop today, as the vehicle needs servicing after the long drive. Har Ki Pauri sits at the centre of Haridwar and several local transport options are available.

Day 2

Haridwar to Barkot via Mussoorie

You are picked up from your stay point after breakfast to begin the journey to Barkot at approximately 1,352 m.

Haridwar to Barkot220 km07-08 HoursBreakfast and DinnerBarkot / Kharsali

You are picked up from your stay point after breakfast to begin the journey to Barkot at approximately 1,352 m. Those who wish may take an early morning dip in the Ganga before departure. The drive normally takes around 07 hours with a short break at Kempty Fall and about 06 hours non stop. In peak season heavy traffic at Mussoorie may require a diversion via Vikas Nagar, in which case the Kempty Fall halt may be dropped as a last minute decision.

Day 3

Barkot to Yamunotri and back to Barkot

Leave early morning for Janki Chatti via Hanuman Chatti and Phool Chatti.

Barkot to Janki Chatti42 km drive and 05 km trek each sideFull dayBreakfast and DinnerBarkot / Kharsali

Leave early morning for Janki Chatti via Hanuman Chatti and Phool Chatti. From Janki Chatti begins the 05 km trek to Yamunotri Dham, where you take a holy dip in the Tapt Kund and offer pooja and darshan to Shree Yamunotri Ji. The temple was built in the 19th century by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur and has twice been rebuilt after destruction. Nearby are Surya Kund and Divya Shila, the rock pillar worshipped before entering the shrine. Trek back to Janki Chatti in the afternoon and drive to Barkot.

A deliberately relaxed day. After breakfast, depart around 10 AM for Uttarkashi at approximately 1,158 m, a drive of only about 04 hours planned so that you can rest after the previous day's trek. Visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple before checking in to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 5

Uttarkashi to Gangotri and back to Uttarkashi

With packed breakfast, leave early for Gangotri.

Uttarkashi to Gangotri200 km round trip05-06 HoursBreakfast and DinnerUttarkashi

With packed breakfast, leave early for Gangotri. The 18th century temple is dedicated to Goddess Ganga and stands near the sacred stone where King Bhagirath worshipped Lord Shiva and where the Ganga is believed to have touched the earth. Rituals include snan at Gangotri Ghat, Ganga Pujan and Aarti, and darshan of Bhagirath Shila, the Gauri Ganesha Temple, Gangotri Temple and Surya Kund. Drive back to Uttarkashi visiting Gangnani en route.

Day 6

Uttarkashi to Guptkashi, Phata or Sitapur via Tehri Dam

Leave early with packed breakfast for an almost day long drive to Sitapur via Guptkashi.

Uttarkashi to Guptkashi240 km08-09 HoursBreakfast and DinnerGuptkashi / Sitapur

Leave early with packed breakfast for an almost day long drive to Sitapur via Guptkashi. This is the longest road stretch of the entire Chardham circuit and can take more than 10 hours if there is traffic congestion. On arrival at Sitapur, Rampur or Guptkashi, check in and rest in preparation for the Kedarnath leg.

Day 7

Sitapur or Phata to Kedarnath by Trek or Helicopter

Today brings the most awaited and most demanding part of the yatra, the darshan of Shri Kedarnath Ji.

21 km trek one way08-09 HoursBreakfast and DinnerKedarnath

Today brings the most awaited and most demanding part of the yatra, the darshan of Shri Kedarnath Ji. Drive early to Sonprayag, where a government taxi takes you on to Gaurikund on direct payment, and the trek begins. The old 14 km path along the Mandakini was washed away in places, so the current route runs approximately 21 km, climbing to around 13,000 ft before descending to the temple at 11,760 ft. It is not comfortably covered in a single day, so an overnight halt at Kedarnath is planned, and pilgrims who are not physically strong are advised to hire a pony or pithu. Those who fly are dropped at the scheduled helipad at the given time. At the shrine there is darshan of Kedarnath Ji and of Bhim Shila, the giant boulder that shielded the temple during the 2013 disaster.

Day 8

Kedarnath to Gaurikund and back to Guptkashi or Sitapur

Trek down from Kedarnath to Gaurikund and Sonprayag, then transfer to Sitapur or Guptkashi.

21 km trek one way06-07 HoursBreakfast and DinnerGuptkashi / Sitapur

Trek down from Kedarnath to Gaurikund and Sonprayag, then transfer to Sitapur or Guptkashi. This night is deliberately kept in the base sector as buffer time, so that a last minute delay caused by bad weather, a technical issue with the helicopter or a medical reason can be absorbed without disturbing the rest of the programme. If you descend early, the day can be used for darshan at Shri Triyugi Narayan Temple, which is optional and chargeable extra, or for an optional halt at Chopta or Ukhimath.

Day 9

Guptkashi to Govindghat or Pipalkoti via Chopta and Joshimath

After an unhurried breakfast, proceed to Govindghat via Ukhimath, Chopta, Pipalkoti and Joshimath.

Guptkashi to Govindghat196 km07-08 HoursBreakfast and DinnerPipalkoti / Govindghat / Badrinath

After an unhurried breakfast, proceed to Govindghat via Ukhimath, Chopta, Pipalkoti and Joshimath. The road from Guptkashi to Chopta and on to Pipalkoti suits small vehicles, and the stretch from Pipalkoti to Joshimath is better. We prefer Govindghat or Pipalkoti over Badrinath for this night. The Sitapur to Badrinath run in one go is long and tiring and often lands pilgrims in Badrinath late at night, leaving services difficult to manage and the next day rushed. The Govindghat to Badrinath road via Lambgarh is also prone to disruption and is never advisable late in the evening. Staying lower allows gradual acclimatisation before Badrinath and leaves time for Hemkund Sahib Ji or the traditional markets of Pipalkoti and Joshimath.

Day 10

Full Day Badrinath Temple and Mana Village

Early morning, take a holy dip in the Tapt Kund and proceed for darshan of Badri Vishal.

75 km or 153 km02:45 Hours or 05 HoursBreakfast and DinnerGovindghat / Pipalkoti / Rudraprayag

Early morning, take a holy dip in the Tapt Kund and proceed for darshan of Badri Vishal. Badrinath, the holiest of the four shrines, lies on the left bank of the Alaknanda between the Nar and Narayan ranges with the Neelkantha peak as backdrop, and the valley takes its name from the wild berries, or badris, that once carpeted the spot. Continue to Nag Nagin Pith, an important site for Sarpkal Dosh Nivaran, then drive up to Mana Village, the last Indian village before Tibet, to see Vyas Cave, Ganesha Cave, Keshav Prayag and the origin of the Saraswati. Also visit Charan Paduka, Ekadasi Gufa, Hanuman Gufa, Narad Kund, Brahma Kapal and Sheshnetra before returning via Pandukeshwar.

Day 11

Govindghat to Rishikesh via Panch Prayag

After breakfast, drive back towards Rishikesh with views of Vishnuprayag, Nandprayag and Karnprayag on the way to Rudraprayag, and finally Devprayag, the fifth and last of the Panch Prayag on this route. On arrival at Rishikesh, visit Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula on foot, as the stretch is not motorable and the vehicle waits at the parking. Evening free for shopping in Rishikesh, followed by dinner and overnight stay.

Day 12

Departure Rishikesh or Haridwar to Delhi

After breakfast, depart for Delhi and proceed to your onward destination as per your schedule.

Common questions

FAQs

What does the Chardham Yatra from Delhi cost per person?

Per person rates start at 32,300 for a group of 12 in the Standard category and rise with the hotel grade and smaller group sizes, up to 77,900 per person for two travellers in the Premium category. All rates exclude 5% GST.

How does this differ from the ex Haridwar programme?

Two extra nights. The Delhi to Haridwar transfer gets a day of its own rather than being added to the first mountain drive, and the yatra closes with a night at Rishikesh before the return to Delhi, which makes the whole circuit noticeably less rushed.

Is Delhi sightseeing included?

No. It can be added as an optional activity at nominal extra cost on the arrival or departure day, arranged through our coordinator.

How long is the Kedarnath trek and can it be avoided?

The current route from Gaurikund runs approximately 21 km one way, climbing to around 13,000 ft before dropping to the temple at 11,760 ft. It is not comfortably covered in a day, which is why an overnight halt at the shrine is built into the programme. Pony, palki and pithu are available on direct payment, and a helicopter can be taken instead, though tickets are not included in the package and depend on availability and weather.

Is GST included in the quoted rate?

No. All rates are per person and exclusive of 5% Government Service Tax. Entrance fees, camera charges, pony, palki and ropeway charges are also paid directly by the guest.

Will the vehicle be air conditioned?

AC is not provided in the hills, which is standard practice across Uttarakhand. AC runs only on the plains sectors such as Delhi to Haridwar or Dehradun, and only against prior written confirmation.

Why is an extra night kept in the Guptkashi or Sitapur sector?

The Kedarnath leg is the least predictable part of the yatra. Weather, a helicopter technical snag or a medical reason can all delay it. Three nights in the Sitapur, Rampur, Phata or Guptkashi sector, including the Kedarnath night, absorb that delay without disturbing the rest of the programme. Itineraries that allow only two nights here routinely run into trouble.

Are there charges beyond the package for side trips?

Yes. Local driver associations levy an excursion fee for Triyugi Narayan, Chopta and Mana, payable locally at INR 3,500 for a small vehicle of up to 04 seats, INR 4,500 for a mid size SUV of up to 07 seats and INR 5,500 for a 12 seater and above. These support driver communities who earn from a season of barely 30 peak days.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancelling 30 days or more before arrival refunds 90% of the booking amount, 25 to 29 days refunds 70%, 20 to 24 days refunds 50% and 10 to 19 days refunds 25%. Within 9 days of arrival no refund applies. Every request must be sent in writing or by email, and refunds are processed after cancellation charges and any non-refundable third party costs already paid.
